Keep Your Synthetic Wig Looking Fresh

Synthetic wigs are a fantastic, low-maintenance option for changing your look, but over time, the curls can lose their bounce and definition. The good news? You can refresh and recurl your synthetic wig at home with the right techniques.

What You'll Need

  • Foam rollers or flexi rods
  • Wig stand or mannequin head
  • Spray bottle with water
  • Wide-tooth comb or wig brush
  • Steamer or hot water (for heat-friendly synthetic wigs only)

Step-by-Step Guide to Recurl Your Synthetic Wig

1. Prepare Your Wig

Start by gently detangling your wig with a wide-tooth comb or wig brush, working from the ends up to the roots. Place the wig on a wig stand to make the process easier.

2. Dampen the Hair

Lightly mist the wig with water using a spray bottle. Don't saturate it—just dampen it enough to make the fibres pliable.

3. Section and Roll

Divide the wig into small sections and wrap each section around foam rollers or flexi rods. The smaller the section, the tighter the curl. Secure each roller in place.

4. Set the Curls

For regular synthetic wigs: Allow the wig to air dry completely on the stand. This can take 24-48 hours depending on humidity.

For heat-friendly synthetic wigs: You can carefully steam the rolled sections or dip them briefly in hot (not boiling) water for 15-30 seconds, then allow to cool and dry completely.

5. Remove Rollers and Style

Once fully dry, carefully remove the rollers. Gently separate the curls with your fingers—avoid brushing, as this can cause frizz. Style as desired.

Top Tips for Maintaining Curls

  • Store your wig on a wig stand to help maintain the curl pattern
  • Avoid heat styling on regular synthetic wigs—it will damage the fibres
  • Use wig-specific products to keep fibres soft and manageable
  • Refresh curls between wears by lightly misting and scrunching

When to Replace Your Wig

Even with proper care, synthetic wigs don't last forever. If your wig is excessively tangled, the fibres are damaged, or it no longer holds a curl, it might be time for a new one. Browse our collection to find your next favourite style!
